Journey Planning

  • What is journey planning?

Journey planning is the ability to find accurate, up to date public transport information without having to search through pages of timetables. All you need to journey plan is a telephone or an internet connection.

The most popular journey planners are:

  1. Traveline
  2. Transport Direct
  3. National Rail Enquiries
  4. Rail Europe
  5. British Airways
  6. The Trainline.com (…coming soon)
  7. National Express (…coming soon)

*Traveline and Transport Direct are impartial, multi-modal (bus, coach, rail etc.) journey planners and will give you the information you require regardless of who operates the journey. No ticket purchases are available.

All of the other journey planners on this page are commercially operated and only offer journey planning in their own field of interest. Ticket purchases will be available from these websites.

1. Traveline

Traveline

The Traveline call centre number is 0871 200 22 33. Once connected, you will speak to an operator who will help you plan your journey using whatever mode of public transport you prefer, be it bus, rail or coach, even ferry and metro, depending on your area.

It will help speed the process up if you have the following information ready before you call:

  • Where you wish to travel from
  • Where you wish to travel to
  • When you wish to travel

All calls cost approximately 10p per minute plus any charges your network provider makes.

If you would prefer to use the internet, their web address is www.traveline.info and select your area from the map; or you can use www.travelinemidlands.co.uk if you want to link direct to Traveline Midlands.

Traveline also delivers public transport information direct to your mobile phone via their SMS and NextBuses service, full details can be found on our mobile bus information page.

While that may sound complicated, journey planning with Transport Direct can be as simple as entering two postcodes and hitting enter.

worcestershirebus.info have such a journey planner available from every page on this site in the ‘Quick Journey Planner’ section on the left. It is shown again below, with instructions:

To use the quick journey planner below (or from the left of any page), just enter your start and destination postcodes and hit ‘plan your journey’.

Enter your starting postcode:

Enter your destination postcode:

After clicking ‘plan your journey’, you will be taken to the Transport Direct website where, after a few seconds, your next few journey options will be displayed as well as a comparison for travel by car.

This simple journey planner will only show the next available journeys between the two postcodes given, but once you have been redirected to the Transport Direct website you can easily change dates, times and other options if required.

Below is a much more comprehensive Transport Direct journey planner, with the ability to enter either addresses, postcodes, tourist attractions, stations or airports, as well as being able to choose when you want to travel.
